Critical Incidents

1. Choking

In a technology class last term the students were making key rings - year 8. A student was fidling with the metal ring that would be fitted at the end. The student kept putting it near his mouth and eventually swallowed it. The student began to choke and although I started to thump him on the back and sent another student to get a first aider I felt really upset that I didn't feel in control and was shaken after. The student was ok because the ring eventually got dislodged and flew out of his mouth. It was a frightening experience for the class as a whole and some of the girls were crying. It haunted me to think what might have happened and so I have since attended a first aid course. On reflection I feel that the conponents for the key rings should be given out when needed and not all at the begining of the lesson. Maybe the class teacher could have done more?

Module 3 Reflection in the work setting.

Well here we are again at the beginning of a new module. After trying to read through some of the literature provided I have realised that this is way out of my comfort zone. Arrgghh!!

So here is the plan:

1st complete ILP
2nd read some literature every other day
3rd add to my notes anything that is relevant
4th don't panic
5th try to be more active in FC

Module 2 on Plone.

Phew! That was a real challenge....I am happy to say that I have finished Module 2 and posted it to my Plone area. My learning Facilitator has been notified and I am looking forward to a short break. I would be happy with a pass and anything over that would be a bonus.

My aims for the coming module:

*To contribute more within FC.
*To make more effort to post here in my blog (learning journal)
*To manage my time better.

Happy Birthday Bowie

I grew up listening to Bowie tunes. Alas they say his wild nights are over. David Bowie opted for a quiet night in and a shepherd's pie to mark his 60th birthday according to one news item. Bless!

Goodbye 2006!

Well Goodbye Christmas, Hello 2007!

Module 2 is coming along now even though I took a while to to get into it . Have looked at some other researchers work over the last two days. Some researchers have used web spaces to present their work. This was when I began to panic and spent a long time going through all of the recent chat transcripts to see if my word document would be sufficient. To my relief a word document has been used by other researchers, so panic over.
Happy New Year to you all!

Module 2

Have been studying hard today and finally module 2 is coming together. With FC and Plone being down I am relying on MSN for feedback from other researchers. This at times can be frustrating as we all seem to be logging in at different times! As Dain said once (I think it was Darin) Onwards and upwards!!
This is my final entry on my blog until after christmas....so if anyone looks at my site over the next few days 'Merry Christmas'.

Online tools in brief.

E-mail.
Setting up a personal electronic mail or e-mail as it is better known. Users can send and receive and store messages with or without pictures to each other. You have a personal email address that you set up from the start. This is an online tool which is used within my work and is very useful.

FirstClass.
On the bulletin board you can leave messages for other researchers to view. Set up normally for a specific group. This group of people can then start a ‘thread’ on any topic and others can add their own comments. Their are facilities to build web pages and blogs. All members have a mailbox and can use this to post personal mail. The instant messaging is a useful tool and enables an on going typed discussion.

Plone.
Plone is a virtual learning environment which can be set up for specific groups. The facilities include homepage set up,folders where work can be uploaded. When other people view a particular persons area their are comment boxes that enable any relevant comments to posted.

MSN.
An instant messaging service where you have the added bonus of video calls. Also referred to as real time messaging.

Blog.
A personal web space on the Internet. Here their are many facilities such as add ons, links to other sites, guestbooks and many more. This is a great tool to use for your learning journal or formal diary. Readers can leave comments on other people’s blog too.

Electronic mail.

Anyone can set up a personal electronic mail or e-mail as it is better known. Users can send and receive and store messages with or without pictures to each other. You have a personal email address that you set up from the start. This is an online tool which is used within my work and is very useful.

Frappr.
This is a website that uses maps to allow users to pin themselves onto a map. This may include a brief outline of who they are and a photograph.A user can also see other members' locations and their pin.
