Online tools in brief.

E-mail.
Setting up a personal electronic mail or e-mail as it is better known. Users can send and receive and store messages with or without pictures to each other. You have a personal email address that you set up from the start. This is an online tool which is used within my work and is very useful.


FirstClass.
On the bulletin board you can leave messages for other researchers to view. Set up normally for a specific group.This group of people can then start a ‘thread’ on any topic and others can add their own comments. Their are facilities to build web pages and blogs. All members have a mailbox and can use this to post personal mail.The instant messaging is a useful tool and enables an on going typed discussion.

Plone.
Plone is a virtual learning environment which can be set up for specific groups. The facilities include homepage set up,folders where work can be uploaded. When other people view a particular persons area their are comment boxes that enable any relevant comments to posted.

MSN.
An instant messaging service where you have the added bonus of video calls.Also referred to as real time messaging.

Blog.
A personal web space on the Internet. Here their are many facilities such as add ons, links to other sites,guestbooks and many more. This is a great tool to use for your learning journal or formal diary. Readers can leave comments on other people’s blog too.

Frappr.
This is a website that uses maps to allow users to pin themselves onto a map.This may include a brief outline of who they are and a photograph.A user can also see other members' locations and their pin.
